specific toilet training help request

Request for specific toilet training help/information:
What is the best way you've found to wipe the baby's butt after they've pooped on the toilet? We've been having him stand up, but he will not follow directions to spread his little feet apart, so it's hard to get in there & really get him clean. Do you wipe them while they're still sitting? From the front? From the back? The hole in a baby potty seat does not allow much room. :/

For a while when Lu was still small-ish (about, hmm, two?) we had him climb off the toilet, lean over (usually the tub, which was right next to the toilet), and spread his legs so we could wipe him. Nowadays (and with KK, since always) we just have them lean over on the toilet so we can wipe (and Lu is learning to wipe himself, which is going ... poorly :P). From the back, that is, we have them lean forward in what's almost a football hold, and then we've got a pretty clear shot at the area of effect. It's awkward but hey, better than stained underwear.

I'd kneel in front of them while they were still sitting. They'd lean forward a bit, and I'd reach around.

This for me, too--if the Junebug feels wobbly leaning forward, it's easy then to prop him on the wiping person's shoulder so that he doesn't take a header off the toilet. I no longer kneel but still ask my daughter to fold up so that there's room for me to reach in....

Unfortunately, on a regular toilet, but: still sitting, them leaning forward and me reaching down from behind them.

I don't remember entirely (lol badgerbag's poop ptsd!), but I think I spend some time having my kiddo lie tummy-down sideways across my lap while I sat on the closed toilet. Also, forgive me if this is obvious, but you use wipes not tp, right?
