I read this stuff and feel like a cow listening to someone complain that beef is so bad for your cholesterol.

Like, in a way, we're on the same side. We both have the same goal, to get people to eat less beef.

And yet, and yet I have to react with I DON'T FUCKING CARE, YOU MURDEROUS SHITWEASEL. Maybe there's a way in which it would be more effective to respond with "That's true! Eating me is awfully bad for you! As it happens, I have this lovely tofu recipe..."

But at the point at which I can respond to a conversation about how unhealthy it is to kill me with genuine concern about the effects on my killer's health... he might as well kill me. He's already stolen my life, whether or not I'm still breathing. I've lost it.

But luckily, y'all stopped reading like 2 paragraphs ago.

I guess I think you don't have to care, though? Other than if you're looking for another argument to convince men that the patriarchy is bad for people of all genders, I mean. The piece isn't actually aimed at you, so if you don't want to care, the author would likely think that's absolutely cool.

If you read all the way down you get to the part where the author discusses being genderqueer. Not sure whether that makes a difference to you; it did a bit to me.

I hope it reaches the people who need to hear it.

I felt it picked up once they mentioned patriarchy, and again when they discussed being genderqueer as an identity they could only access after having engaged with feminist discourses.

The first half is more about convincing nerd and geek guys that they are still participating in toxic ideas about masculinity, even if they have opted out of mainstream ideas about masculinity. Judging from the amount of geeky guys (who already engage with feminism) who posted it on my various timelines, it seems to have hit a nerve and given them something to thinking about.
