When my daughter learned the sign for milk (this might have been around 9 months old?), she started busting it out every time I walked into the room. So I would obligingly stick a boob in her mouth, but half the time she wasn't even interested in nursing. So I'm like, "Does she really know what the sign means if she's doing it when she's not hungry and doesn't want to nurse?" And my husband said, "Either she just wants to show off her new skills, or she thinks it's your name."
And that is how Milk became one of my nicknames.
(But once she learned spoken words, she loved to practice them over and over to anyone who would listen, so I think she was just proud of her new WORD.)
