Parents

Also we got home & Mr. E asked "how was dinner?" & I said "it was nice!" & Mom said "IT WAS AN ORDEAL." Has it just been too long since she hung out with small kids? Or would most people not count a dinner outing where the baby throws up, the kid knocks over the neighbors' water, and the parent, despite her best efforts, is moved once to loudly state "Mother. FUCKER." as a success? I can't remember anymore. :( Relatively speaking, it went well!

Soon they will be old enough to loudly repeat your political opinions, which may not be popular among those eating nearby! Relatedly, Mom got yelled at at least once for "raising anti-coal girls" when I was a kid.

Well, vomiting. But other than that it sounds lovely.

Yeah, for that level of spitting up, it sounds like a relative success to me, too.

A couple of friends (different households) with slightly older kids have also said that people forget surprisingly fast what it's like to have a child of a specific age. I've forgotten a lot myself, it turns out from interacting with neighbor kids younger than mine. Brain self-protection! but frustrating when people have no idea how much they've forgotten, or that they've forgotten. (MIL keeps giving us stuff that's totally the wrong interest/age range. Lately my daughter looks at it dubiously, then hands it back and says, "Maybe for another kid.")

Hmm. I've had dinners with adults that went like that and you can't strap an adult into a high chair. More's the pity.

Neighbor at the table or neighbor at the next table? If the former, SOP.
