junebug junebug junebug

So I write a cranky post like that about the Junebug….and then all evening he:
  • holds my hand without complaint in the parking lot
  • rides in the grocery cart and helps put food on the conveyor belt
  • helps me grind pepper for dinner
  • PUTS THE PACIFIER GENTLY BACK IN HIS BROTHER'S MOUTH to help Rocket be calm while we make dinner*
  • politely says "Thank you" for each one in his little tiny voice when I give him his cup of water and his fork and his bib at dinner*
  • asks for fourths on hummus
  • hands Rocket toys and things to keep him happy while Mr. E cleans up after dinner
  • cheerfully plays "Red Light, Green Light" up the stairs
  • while I'm brushing his teeth, touches my face gently, then explains "I'm patting you."*
  • is a complete delight

Is anything better than his little face roaring at me while Mr. E dries his hair and I nurse Rocket, saying "I'm a bumblebee! I'm a ladybug! I'm a dinosaur! I'm a dragon! Rawrrr!" No. No it is not. Unless it's looking into his room on the way to put Rocket to bed, and seeing him sitting next to Mr. E, in fleecy fire truck pyjamas, listening happily to Green Eggs and Ham.

The hard stuff is what makes the heart-melty stuff. If your experience is like mine, you're at the beginning of the expansion of the heart-melty. But the hard won't likely diminish quickly-- just change.

Congratulations on your investment. And it's okay to find it painful and irritating. :D
