unexpected side effect of toilet training
An unfortunate and unexpected but, in retrospect, totally predictable, consequence of having started toilet training using a potty seat rather than a little potty: the baby refuses to use the little potty because the big potty is now HIS potty; and, in fact, he bursts into tears whenever Mr. E or I insist on using the toilet, because it is now HIS potty. No matter how much we use the word "OUR".

Ownership and possessiveness are still things for our kids. We've alternately tried to logic them by telling them that everything we have is communal property (with a very few exceptions: loveys, water bottles when someone is sick, and toothbrushes) or by saying that everything is actually mine/my partner's so we get the final say on who gets to use which couch when. Neither really seems to work because, when it comes right down to it, kid logic is basically whatever logic will win them the argument, regardless of whether it is actually logical.
