Oh and speaking of sick kids. The Nosefrida is a wonderful invention, and you can get it at Whole Foods. So much better than those stupid bulb things! Through lots of patience and habituation we have trained the Junebug to react to it with strong dislike. (He used to react to it with the bugged eyes and violent flailing of OH MY GOD I AM BEING PROBED BY ALIENS.) But it really clears him out, our poor little snotnose!

Hm, I wonder if I can use that on my kid. (he has an inherited "venous malformation" in his nostril which means regular nose bulbs cause epic nosebleeds.)

Hmm. If the problem is just that vacuum in his nose is going to cause his vein walls to burst, then no, because this also works by vacuum and in fact a much more effective vacuum. However, the tip is blunter and bigger than the bulbs I've seen, so if the problem is that the bulb tips jab the inside of his little nose, maybe.

Right, it's that the veins are "too close to the surface" and physical contact causes the problem. It is mostly triggered by overly dehumidified air, but a temporary vacuum shouldn't be an issue.
