I haven't been around much because in my ten minutes of free time a day I've been working on a drawing. Which has been interesting. More on that when I finish it.

The Junebug, at the age of 2 years and 7 months, has firmly entered the phase of infinite whys. Sadly this has not coincided with my becoming infinitely wise.

If you were there for me complaining about housework and gender and stuff, know that surprise! now that I am back at work and Mr. E is on his paternity leave, I am magically much happier about it all!
...we'll see how it goes when we're both back at work in two weeks, and Rocket goes to daycare, and we begin our year of being sick. Gonna suck for quite a while, is my guess.

Actually it's not just the drawing, two other things: I've been thinking about the backyard/garden, and trying like hell to snatch a little time to work on it, because it's one of those things where the timing matters. I should probably be out there now. :/

And the other thing is that I finally figured out how to make Tumblr sort of more or less work on mobile. I'm on there same name. I pretty much just read and reblog, but I did do a post about Washboard and ShortBlogger.

Rocket, god help us all, appears to be getting his first tooth.

Last night Mr. E and I got dressed up and went out on a DATE with fancy food and music and it was GLORIOUS. It was my Christmas present, it was the best. :)

Hurray for rebalancing of mental allocations! I too have been pondering the garden in bits and pieces, and realizing it's good that ours is fairly small.

You sound like you're battening down the hatches over there. I hope the year is much less sucky than you are anticipating.

On the other hand, I have found that many of the "why's" are not nearly as existential and scientifically-inquiring as I had for some reason believed! A sample conversation at the park: "Look, there's the slide!" "Why?"

(I have sometimes tried to ask, "Why do you think?" with hilarious results: "Because there are swings too." I... have no idea how her mind works. A friend postulates that this is their way of saying they want to carry on a conversation without actually being able to do so.)

Here's to hoping that you guys have already strengthened your immune system from the Junebug!

Yeah. I have this instinctive sadness that mine is so small? But realistically it's gonna take me years to figure out what to do with even what I have.

Oh yeah. If I ask him "Why *what*?" he never knows. I think he's figured out it's a thing he can say to make his parents say something that will probably be interesting.

For when it really goes on too long--I try not to abuse this trick--I ask Reason to repeat back what I've said in explanation. If she can't latch on to one word, she wasn't really listening, I say, and we'll try again another time. I mean, I want her to ask questions, and increasingly she does so in a meaningful way, but if I wanted to hear myself speak for twenty minutes, I'd talk about something that interests me as well....

I've sunk to "I'm not emotionally prepared to answer that any more right now."
