learning

Driving home last night, stuck in traffic. Some asshole behind me starts helpfully leaning on his horn.

Suddenly a tiny voice pipes up from the backseat, "Somebody a jerk!"

So okay, I guess he's got a head srtart on learning to drive...

You've seen this, right? What kills me is I was at the hardware store last night and I bought the Junebug a broom because I saw they had little brooms and he loves brooms. If he sees me sweeping he wants to help. He wants to run the vacuum. He wants me to hold the dustpan for him. Fuck a world that'll teach him that's "girl stuff ".

Hee! The Pip backseat drives by saying "Go, Mommy, go!" (Regardless of who is actually driving.)

And I love the helpful-toddler stage, even though it can be a little challenging sometimes to find safe ways for them to help . . .

On the up side, he did say jerk! This means you have managed not to say asshole out loud often enough for him to pick it up. Congratulations!

Small broom FTW! And yes, totally get kids to help in small ways while they still think it's fun. My daughter peels 90% of individual garlic cloves, then hands them over for "the hard part" (last little bits)--wasn't my idea, but I save them for her now whenever I can.

Yay brooms! Yeah, my mother-in-law was careful to teach all her children, the boys and the girls equally, to sweep and cook and clean, and it is awesome.

Garlic's the second-best thing she initiated--the best, after one horrified moment, was her unloading of the dishwasher. At least she handed things to me instead of trying straight off to get dishes up to the shelves. Teamwork has helped it continue....
