This sounds defeatist to me. What if my question is not "what are my rights?" or "how do I reduce how much I'm hurting others?" but "how do I reduce how much others are hurting me?" or "how do I get people to do what I want?" Captain Awkward provides a lot of advice about leaving, but not all conflicts are resolved by someone leaving. Sometimes people fight. Maybe what I want are strategies about how to stay and fight and win.
I'm not in favor of discarding my own desires. I figure if the world wants to deny me, I'm going to make it go to the trouble. I'm not going to save it the trouble by pre-emptively defeating myself.
