Rocket's favorite songs

You may recall that the Junebug at this age stayed on brand with a very strong message of MAMA DON'T SING. Rocket, however, is my little music lover. We have had to put our foot down and stand firm on ONE song every night before going to sleep.

For a long time every single night's request was "the diamond ring song" (Hush Little Baby).

This has recently been broken up by frequent requests for "millions of degrees" (Why Does the Sun Shine?).

A strong third is "Roy G. Bivot" (Roy G. Biv).

And, because I have been on a folk song kick lately, his latest obsession is "ladies fly home" (The Seventh Girl).

My understanding is that Mr. E gets other requests sometimes, but I don't know what they are.

Aw! We have the same thing going on -- E. hated for me to sing, and A. loves it. Lately he has been on a Sandra Boynton song kick (he especially likes Snuggle Puppy).

A.'s also done the "stop singing" thing - not at night so much, but other times. It's so weird.

At ages 4 & 6, our bedtime routine seems to have shifted. A. goes to bed earlier, and he gets a book (reading to US now), and then old iPhone. iPhone has Audible, he can have 15-30 minutes of the Cat in the Hat or other things, then I'll come up and switch it to a playlist - Raffi & Daniel Tiger are popular, but for a while it was a lot of Piano Man and other things on Jen's mellow background music playlist.

Then, an hour or so later, E. goes to bed (top bunk) after doing her homework reading and other cooldown activities. Mostly that's just to give A. a chance to sleep without them chatting all night.

Yay! Hope it helps!

Sometimes E.(*) goes to bed earlier in our bed and then we carry her in to hers later. Which is getting harder but still doable. ;-) Still trying to find the best balance.

(*) Ours, not yours! That'd be weird.

I'm so glad your musical genes landed in Rocket.

And since it's all about me, I'm just as glad to gain the acquaintance of Bella Hardy. WOW.

Sometimes I'm asked for "the photosynthesize song," which is Vienna Teng's "Never Look Away." Sometimes, OTOH, I'm asked for "that heart song," which I regret ever having mentioned because it's so damned boring (my heart will go ooooooon and ooooooooon).
